New Delhi, July 1: The NDA has opposed the "hurried attempts" by the human resources development ministry to make Class 10 board optional and a single board for Class 12 examinations. The alliance accused HRD minister Kapil Sibal of not consulting the state governments on the various education reforms suggested by him.
The NDA had a meeting of its education ministers on Tuesday in this regard.
"All the education ministers present said they have not received any official document from the Central government on the suggestions made by the HRD minister," said former HRD minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.
Mr Joshi said though the NDA was not against reforms in education, it was opposed to reforms which had "no roadmap, no direction".
The meeting, chaired by Mr Joshi, was attended by NDA convenor Sharad Yadav, deputy leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and the education ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh.
The education ministers of Gujarat and Bihar sent their suggestions as they were busy with the ongoing budget sessions in their state.
Mr Joshi maintained that the NDA had always been concerned about the education system. "If the government brings a practical proposal to remove the shortcomings in education, then the NDA will have a creative approach to them," said the BJP leader.
The senior BJP leader said the NDA education ministers had not sent a dissent note to the government yet as no proposal had been sent to them.
