‘Govt must seek vote of confidence’

By Our Correspondent

New Delhi, July 4: Claiming the new found bonhomie between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party as manifestation of politics of "convenience and opportunism", the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said it is morally imperative upon the government to seek a vote of confidence in the event of the Left parties withdrawing support to it.

"It is imperative of the government to seek the House’s confidence if the Left withdraws its support," party spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters here.

Asked if the party would persist with its demand if the Samajwadi Party renders support to the government, Mr Prasad said, "The government is morally and ethically bound to seek confidence irrespective of any other parties come forward to support it."

"BJP is deeply concerned over the political theatre being played in Delhi," he added.

"We are finding the worst kind of opportunistic politics being played. Some parties are trying to withdraw from the temporary parking lot known as the UNPA and switch over to the UPA," Mr Prasad said.
